This was a golden age for movie soundtracks. We were both getting really into not only contemporary music, but the history of music. It kind of curated the most perfectly cool experience. You understood then that these people listened to Lou Reed and Iggy Pop and they were always cool. And anyone who told you otherwise was wrong.
