When a shunned bastard turns out to be a great warrior, it's like the immovable object. Damon Blackfire embodied this confusion more so than anyone else in Game of Thrones. He may have been inspiring to other bastards by being such a great warrior. But had he won and ruled well or at least ruled okay, yeah, it might have really changed how bastards were viewed going forward.
