The Government's Attack on the British Water Infrastructure
The British Water Infrastructure was privatised in the 1980s and 1990s. It is owned by a number of pension funds and sovereign wealth investors. The company had no debt when it was privatised, but since then has borrowed £53 billion. Much of this has been used to help pay some £72 billion in dividends. And what have we got for it? We've got a water system which has huge problems in terms of the quality of the infrastructure,. leaks, relatively little new investment - and consumers are now facing enormous spikes in their water bills.
