The Importance of Parables

In Mark, Jesus gives parables. And then the author says, he did this in order that they will not understand and that they won't be forgiven. But he used parables to throw everyone else off the trail. Why would he do that? I want to come back to that at the very end of our session because it might have to do with the historical Jesus.
