Is There Someone in Charge?
The new deal was what Edmund Burke would just call arbitrary power. He may have not known what the basic principle of the new deal was, but I do. And that is the idea that someone has to be in charge. You get really deeply uncomfortable with situations in which there is not someone obviously in charge.
