CHAPTER

The Displacement of Great Fears

Author argues that we do displace great fears onto more everyday perceived threats. We try to displace our fear of these great threats onto more manageable, tangible, more minor threats and then go about trying to control those threats. In the migrant case, no one individual in the US is coming to see migrants as a threat, that's something that happens very much relationally. Others are intentionally or unintentionally guiding our attention to a fear of certain kinds of proxy threats. And thereby playing a really significant role in where our fears land.
