The Great Dickon and Mary
Colin's doctor warns him not to forget that he is ill and that he must take it easy. Mary also distracts Colin from his gloomy, self-pitying by entertaining him with stories of her friend, the Great Dickon. The idea of a boy who talks to animals in trees, Colin looks forward to one day meeting Dickon. This is a big deal because he never looks forward to anything, and now he's looking forward to Dickon.
