What Is a Grand Jury?

This week we heard that a grand jury has convened to look into allegations involving phony slates of trump electors in six states. A group of citizens, traditionally 23, that investigates crimes and brings indictments which are bills of charges that begin prosecutions. The use of the grand jury dates back hundreds of years, and was recognized in the magna carta in 12 15. Federal grand juries usually sit for ten months, one day per week, and can be extended if needed.
