Friends described the inside of that house as, and I quote, an abnormal atmosphere of suppressed hysteria, emotion, catatonic grief. Even in her private life, she became someone extraordinary touched by fate and celebrity. No one would ever be able to react normally to her again, nor would she ever escape her golden cage. She was everywhere. Her picture was all over the place.
