Philosopher Richard McDonald says the Bible is full of allegories. Some are used for propaganda, but others can be seen as eucharistic or a way to nourish the soul. In some cases they're taken literally by gospel writers like John Dominic Crosson. But in many other places there's no reason to take them seriously at all, he says.
