How to Replace Insensible Losses in Patients
Prolonged operations, patients with burns. Fevers and people who are on vents. We also worry about insensible losses. So we have the patient who's got high NG tube output. And you want to... Normal saline. You want to replace that. High volume bio-leaf. LR. Why do you choose LR instead of NS? Because if we're an ongoing bio-leaf or losing bicarb, you want to replace it with a bio-carb. How about the patient with colitis and severe diarrhea? For that one, I think also you would choose LR. What else will they get? Hypokalemia. Huge potassium losses in stool.
