The higher you score on neuroticism the more emotional instability you have. Neurotic is defined as our sensitivity to negative emotion and it's how it's treated in the big five theory. If you score highly in neuroticism you're much more vulnerable to being diagnosed with mental health problems like shame and guilt and dread.
