The Virgin Soil Epidemic
Even in places where measles was supposedly endemic, it could still cause a huge problem. During the American Civil War over 204,000 troops were killed on the battlefields due to disease. Nine out of ten cases during the Civil War were traceable to measles. The Fiji measles epidemic of 1875 destroyed close to a quarter of the entire population of that country. It's basically like naive population epidemic.
