Can't You Do Something to Avoid a Difficult Time?

One of the things that i see most from er investors and potential investors is when manager c t a trend follows go through a difficult time, especially if it's one of those quick ones. The question always comes up, but can't you do something to avoid these periods? And the answer is, of course we can. But as soon you start doing that, as you rightly say, the long term returns go down,. That's just not where we want to focus. We need to make those choices on how to trade from a dispassionate, science based, research based point of view, and not too many emotions.
