The Process of Identity Splitting in Children With DIS
The first identity splits are formed through trauma, and DIS is ultimately an attempt to overcome a chronically traumatizing situation. Not only does the perpetrator play a central role in this development, but others in the child's environment do as well. In our example, it would be crucial whether the father, or say a kindergarten teacher, or the grandparents, notices that something is wrong. If those individuals notice something, if they try to find out more, then something will ultimately be done,.
