The Evolution of the Number 10 Role at Elite Clubs

I'm intrigued that at both club and international level, there's the great quote from Jesse Marsh about it being two different sports. But team playing what on paper looks like two number 10 profiles now. Often in sort of box midfields or at times they'll sort of rotate to have a central midfielder that starts deeper but really plays also between those lines. I think the role then becomes a lot less what I would associate as the back to goal trying to receive and being that main focal point. It's just sort of changed a bit in terms of the dynamic. There are two England players that have just popped into my mind who I think if they're being pigeonholed could be described as
