The History of the Hawaiian Islands
The Polynesians arrived with a bunch of things called canoe animals and canoe plants. They also introduced sweet potatoes to the islands, which spread throughout Polynesia roughly at the time or slightly after the initial settlement. So what did the culture of ancient Hawaiians look like? Society was stratified by castes at the top where the Ali'i, the chiefs, hereditary nobility, who legend had it and were descended from the gods. Just below them were the Kahuna, who were priests, but also craftsmen of various kinds.
