What's the Biblical Underpinnings of This Christus Victor Theory?
There is a battle victory sort of freedom motif that runs throughout the new testament, and it shows up in different strands of metaphors. So one metaphor might be a ransom scenario that jesus, jesu's death, somehow paid a price to free us from sin or evil or satan. Other metaphors imply that jesUS's life or death and resurrection defeated satan in the powers of evil by triumphing over them. But all these theories are not just theories grabbed out of thin air theye ares, actually, they're all trying to grapple with biblical themes and texts which lend themselves towards different ways of thinking about the significance of the cross.
