Agatha Miller was an only child. She looked up enormously to her sister, whose name was Madge. Monty and Maddy have gone off frittering. So I'm imagining she, as you say, lived like an only child in her head. Agatha is very fanciful and occupied herself with stories and storytelling. And that's why I like to think of her - a great reader.
