Is the Brain Like a Tree Bark?
The word for cortex, the outer shell of the brain, is the same as tree bark. What really struck me was that you've got this permanent of these 86 billion cells that you're gifted at birth pretty much and that's what goes through. But these immense plasticity to it. So whether that is a taxi driver, the famous thing of a taxi driver's hippocampus getting bigger or someone who's deaf getting some degree of the ability to detect the sonic echoes of the rooms they're in,. the brain seems adaptive even though it's fixed. And that seems like such an interesting contradiction to me. It is very hard to sort of imagine the power of this, but any one of those
