106d. How children learn?

Education Bookcast

CHAPTER

Teaching in a Pre-State Society

Navajo children are told that if they misbehave the big gray yay beachay will carry them off and eat them. In many societies even speaking children don't have conversations with adults because adulthood is a separate sphere. Children always learn their culture without being taught in every society including our own. Teaching happens to teach academic material but not so much to actually teach our culture in terms of lots of other things.
