The Predictive Model of Pattern Recognition

Humans are good at noticing patterns and making predictions based on patterns, things we see in the environment. This kind of system helps you figure out how to get more of that little treat. But much about the modern world is not predictable at all; it's artificially random. And this kind of over-reliance on our predictive systems can lead to what's called the post-hoc ergo-proctor-hoc fallacy.
