How to Address Unrealistic Hopes in Cancer Patients
As a hospitalist at a cancer center, I've heard a wide range of hopes. Patients often develop their hopes on their own, but the healthcare system encourages people to dream big. Sometimes we end up unintentionally colluding with our patients' unrealistic hopes. Clinicians may be hesitant to share bad news because we don't want to take away hope.
