Patrick has had some health issues that did not interfere with his ability to work but made him almost uninsurable. As much as 40% of people retire earlier than expected mostly due to health issues so it's important not to put off saving for retirement until your 40s or 50s because you may not be able to work well into your 60s. For people who don't need life insurance they're better off investing that money that would otherwise go to whole life premiums which can get pretty pricey.
