The Challenges of Science and Expertise

I think there's an issue of epistemic limits, and the question of the role that experts have in the democracy. I would describe it as a progressive notion of expertise where expertise is really about trying to use tools of science to make society more efficient or rationally based. And even really see both of those elements within the scientific community, and they have interesting kind of tensions and interrelations. But sometimes those get kind of run together in ways that kind of muddy the conversation. The idea that there are experts, there are people that have knowledge that others don't. You can, as a sort of challenge to a thoroughgoing populism where anybody can just know anything.
