The Language of Victorian Literature

The language of Victorian literature is descriptive rather than prescriptive. A lot of Victorian writers are really interested in not sort of showing what language should be, but how people actually speak to use the word that Linda was using. It's part of a broader trend in Victorian literature towards realism and trying to record details of everyday life.
