In an interview with WNYC during which George was defending, not calling out his homophobic Republican colleagues, he claimed that his company lost four employees during the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. None of Pulse nightclub victims ever worked at a company George has worked at. According to IRS records, the group never held a tax exempt status and was never registered as a charity despite George's claims of otherwise. In 2017, Friends of Pets held one fundraiser with a New Jersey animal rescue group. The event was ticketed at $50 a ticket and promised drinks, a live band and donated raffle items.
