Tragedy and the Free Intelligence
Schellar's theory of tragedy is founded upon this notion of freedom. The only entity which could be regarded as properly tragic is resistance, resistance on the part of a man to whatever it is that oppresses him. Richard the third ago are not tragic figures for Schiller because they behave like animals. If ungovernable, no tragedy whatever may occur.
