Southern company's georgia power has thrown in the tawel on coal, citing continued economic challenges for coal power. The utility plans to close all its coal fired power plants and replace them with two point four gigowats of natural gas capacity from existing plants owned by southern company. Georgia power revealed that it plans to install a novel flow battery from form energy to test the technologys suitability for providing long duration energy storage. Later this year, georgiaPower is planning to submit an integrated resource plan to regulators.
