The government's response remains drug-focused. Gangs are now very able to influence politics. They're intertwined with politicians because of the levels of corruption. The U.S. has obviously long had a war on drugs and is particularly focused again due to the fentanyl crisis.

In attempts to amass more wealth, these organisations are dabbling in newer narcotics and even taking on the mining sector. The result is taking a toll on the country’s economy.
