The Eucharist Commits Us to the Poor
The church knows that the Lord comes even now in His Eucharist and that He is there in our midst. There is no surer pledge or clearer sign of this great hope in the new heavens and the new earth in which righteousness dwells, than the Eucharist. We must recognize Christ in the poorest who are his brethren. You have tasted the blood of the Lord. You do not recognize your brother. And we break the one bread that provides the medicine of immortality, the antidote for death and the food that makes us live forever in Jesus Christ.
