Persuasion
In Our Time: Culture
Lyman - A Novel Review
There is a reversal of roles between Anne and Captain Wentworth in the second volume. In the first one, it's Anne who's always embarrassed and reticent around Wentworth. He comes to Bath, and it's precisely the reverse. There are scenes of him actually blushing and scenes of him being tongue-tied. Mrs. Smith brings a sense of revisiting a very poor woman disabled. It's a very interesting sense of global expansiveness in the novel.
