What Was the Environment Like at Google?

When Google Brain really got started, there was a significant shift. It was much more driven by products that truly made a difference than I believe Bell Labs was. The environment shifted from being more application and product oriented into something that at least felt for quite a few years much more academic. But it's still a little different than academic labs because we could afford way more GPUs.
