Leadership Lessons From the Global Financial Crisis
I feel lucky that I became president at the same time Obama became president, because that's when the global financial crisis happened. And that was the worst time to be president and the best time to bePresident of Rhode Island School of Design. The problem when you build buildings is twofold. First is the old buildings that you have, you're not repairing them. So they're getting worse. Second thing is when you build new buildings, you build them on debt. They were unstaffed and carried a lot of debt. That helped me put my fancy MBA into the sort of action. Like I read spreadsheet, I could listen to everyone telling me things and having a grounding for it.
