Advancing AI in Thermal Power Efficiency

This chapter explores the establishment of the Institute for AI Industry Research at Tsinghua University, focusing on the development of the AI system Deep Thermal for enhancing combustion efficiency in thermal power plants. It discusses the innovative use of offline reinforcement learning to optimize coal power plants, evaluates the system's performance through real-world implementation, and contrasts it with traditional control methods. Additionally, the chapter addresses environmental concerns and the practical challenges of transitioning to greener energy solutions amidst existing infrastructure in China.
