The Schiller Play in German Opera

The operas based on Schiller which are numerous benefit from very strong characterization of important figures at key moments of history and it's then I think Schiller had frequently written the history himself before he wrote the play. In Don Carlos there's marvellous scene between King Philip and the Grand Inquisitor which is one of the great inverteous opera in all opera. The Joan of Arc is another one in the Yungfrau Faunalian which Tchaikovsky composed as an opera best part of 100 years after it was written.
