Is There a Middle East in Syria?

Half of syria's population is displaced, millions outside the country. Entire cities like aleppo and hunks have been reduced to rubble. And so it is all the more tragic to see, from rom the viewpoint of a hundred years, a years ago, what might have been. The preconditions for its weakened roll go politically in the region, and its subsequent role as a football between super powers.
