Diana's Divorce and Camilla's Rebirth
Despite divorcing the future King of England, Diana remained an incredibly popular and loved figure in Britain. Almost exactly a year after the divorce, on 31 August 1997, Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris. By this time, Charles and Camilla had actually rekindled their old relationship. The Queen disapproved so much of Charles' relationship that she refused to attend his 50th birthday party because Camilla would be there.
