Plato's Love, a Form of Love That Transcends the Physical and Approaches the Divine

The word platonic is a form of love that transcends the physical and approaches the divine. Named after the greek philosopher plato, although that ay have just been his nickname. In the seventeenth century, the idea of platonic love was mocked in plays and poems. By the 16 thirties, the word had a connotation of ridiculousness. So platonic was robbed of that sense of transcendence and became rather diluted,. used for a relationship that is too tepid to become romantic.
