The Impact of Columbus on Native Americans

The arrival of Columbus and the subsequent European colonization has had a lasting impact on Native American populations. Some argue that Columbus' expeditions directly marked the beginning of an era of European colonization, exploitation and cultural imperialism. In fact, Columbus was probably not the first European to reach the continent. Vikings is the modern name for the seafaring people of Scandinavia,. They raided, colonised, settled, traded and explored over a vast area from around the 8th century to the 11th century. Polynesians are believed to be part of the Austronesian people who can be found in places like Southeast Asia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
