i was the middle school english language argh teacher for gifted students for ten years, a middle school. When gifted students do encounter challenges, many times it can be painful. So we teach that this temporary pain is kind of like delayed gratification. Its dealing with the stress and emotion of of the experience. We may also see this avoidance displayed even self handicapping behavior.
