The Tension of Pain and Longing

I remember I was familiar with several of the members of Emmanuel after the shooting in Charleston. And there was a time period where not just that church, but other churches came together and returned to the hymns and to the spirituals. Because when you really unpack the spirituals, you see what the tension of pain and longing kind of sounds like. It's the soon I'll be done with this because there's this eschatological hope. Without that hope, then I'm stuck here. We need that. Yes, we do.
