The Role of NKT Cells in Senescent Cells

The recognition of the NKT cells for the senescent cells has to do with specific receptors that they both at a very high level, there are corresponding receptors on this senescent cell that also exist. It's kind of like putting a key into a lock and the key has to fit perfectly into the lock in order to open the door. There are a number of receptors that intermingle between the two when they recognize that complement the array of receptors, then the NKT cell will go in and kill the senescent cell and remove it through it. The more traditional T cell cytotoxic pathways don't work as well.
