Did He Really Use the Books as a Way of Serving God?
He used his position as a children's writer to be sort of an evangelist. I almost think of him as sort of the apostle of children. He definitely saw that as part of his purpose. Later books Sylvian Bruno and Sylvian Bruno concluded, which he very much intended to be children's books. But it was his his intention that those would mix what he called the grave and the gay. They would mix serious ideas about religion and about the deeper thoughts about life,. along with the nonsense that and the storytelling that we had come to know from him.
