The Disruption of Folly in the New Testament
I'm curious about the historicism that you mean, because that seems to me more pointing towards a direction of the world story. But it gets there by contradiction. Without that antithesis, you don't get the energy that drives towards new possibility. I think that what Erasmus wants to do is leave room for the New Testament to create that antithesis and disruption so that in that moment of folly, some undiscovered kind of virtue becomes possible.
