Reverse dieting is the effect of establishing neutral energy balance. It is not the cause that is ramping up energy expenditure, i think it works the other way around. And so we don't need a progressive overload with resistance training to be able to make adaptation,. We just need the training stimulus to be good enough to impose more adaptation. E. Brian helms and eric helms have written about reverse dieting in an article called 'The Power Of Reverse Dieting' The authors say there are no scientific grounds for their findings.
