The History of Pompeii
Pompeii has been a Roman town since at least the 6th century BC. It was occupied by the Greeks, who had begun to colonize southern Italy in about 750 BC. Just three years before the 62 AD earthquake, Pompeii hosts gladiatorial games in its amphitheater against the neighboring town of Nusiria. The authorities in Rome issue an edict that the city shall not hold gladiator games for ten years.
