The cowry was used as a currency in the early 1900s. The shells were easy to count and packed up into ship ballast. They are small enough to fit on the tip of your pointer finger. When jingled, they sound kind of like dice when they're clacking together. And that made me remember they have that nice, smooth feal of dice.
