Stay Tuned with Preet

CHAPTER

The New York Times Profiles

In 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini put out a fatwa, a death sentence on Rushdie for the sin of writing a novel. For the next 10 years, Rushdie lived like a fugitive in England and then came to U.S. He's suffering from physically and mentally the aftermath of this near death experience last year. It's an absolute miracle that Rushdie was not killed. Some guy, 24-year-old guy named Hadimatar of Lebanese parents, leapt up on stage and stabbed him at least 15 times before he's finally pulled off of him.
