Al-Farabi's Judgment and Grammar
Jurisprudence is to stay within the legal framework and symbolic world of a religion. Al-Farabi's philosophy, by contrast, is ostentatiously and explicitly universal. The jurist makes careful guesses about how best to extend these teachings without probing into their actual foundations. He associates theology with dialectic, which is the practice of arguing from agreed premises.
